How is CBG different from CBD?

CBG is short for cannabigerol. It is often referred to as the "mother cell" of cannabinoids because it serves as the precursor molecule for CBD (cannabidiol), THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBC (cannabichromene).

Some cannabis plants convert most of the CBG into THC (marijuana plants), others convert it into CBD (hemp plants). As plants convert CBG to other cannabinoids, total CBG levels begin to decrease.

Cannabis growers can play with the levels of cannabinoids in their plants through selective breeding or more advanced gene-editing techniques. Both methods have the same goal: to tinker with the enzymes that convert CBG into other cannabinoids.

CBG offers potent anti-anxiety effects

One of the factors driving the growing popularity of CBG products is their effect on anxiety. Some experts suggest that CBG is even more reliable in controlling anxiety than CBD. GABA is the main neuroinhibitory compound in the brain. It is responsible for controlling excessive electrical activity induced by stress and anxiety. GABA is also important for our parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for our "rest and digest" response.

The anxiolytic effects of CBG are based on its ability to inhibit the reuptake and destruction of GABA. Once a neurotransmitter is released, neurons reabsorb it and begin to break it down. By blocking this effect, neurotransmitters such as GABA increase their concentration around neurons, producing a stronger relaxing effect.
