Treating Crohn's Disease with Cannabis: A Woman's Journey
Q&A blog post with cannabis influencer @marrijuana
Q: Please give us a brief introduction of yourself, what you do, how long you've been smoking, and what you do for fun?
A: My name is Marri {Mah-Ree}. I am an “influencer” in the Cannabis industry. I put influencer in quotes because people call me that, but I would not categorize myself as one! I am just Marri doing what Marri does everyday! For fun, I like to travel, be with family, and do anything creative!
Q: What got you into cannabis? How long have you been a user?
A: I have been around cannabis my whole life, as one of my parents has been a patient for over 20 years. I started using it recreationally when I was 15, but became a medical patient after being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in August of 2016. I have used daily for almost 3 years now.
Q: Can you elaborate on your experience with Crohn's Disease and how cannabis has helped you?
A: To treat Crohn’s, I was originally placed on immunosuppressants administered through IV. I felt better physically, but mentally I didn’t feel like myself anymore. I wanted a more natural way to feel better, to ease pain, or even prevent flares from occurring. My gastroenterologist was very supportive in my decision to go the natural route as well. I have been off of immunosuppressants for more than 2 years now. I solely use Medical Cannabis and CBD products for Crohn’s. For me, Cannabis helps with Crohn’s symptoms such as nausea, appetite, and pain. CBD helps immensely with inflammation.
Q: How often do you smoke / use cannabis?
A: I smoke and use cannabis daily.
Q: What are your favorite methods of administration? Dabbing? Vaping? Joints? Blunts? Spliffs?
A: My favorite methods of administering are water pipes and dry pipes.
Q: How does it make you feel?
A: Cannabis makes me feel better physically and mentally. Crohn’s disease comes with lots of pain and discomfort. Cannabis really helps ease that. I also feel more relaxed.
Q: What is your message for other people who are curious about cannabis?
A: Safely, Try it! Cannabis is not for everyone and effects everyone differently. My best advice is to try it for yourself and see what you like and don’t like.
Q: What's your favorite strain(s)?
A: I am an Indica girl all the way. My favorite strains are Skywalker OG, LA OG, and King Louis OG.
Q: What would you like to see for the future of this industry?
A: I would like to see more people like me! Just using cannabis for health purposes, whether it be mental or physical health. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with recreational use. I’d just like to see more people breaking the stigma that cannabis is only for fun. It is fun, but there’s so many other purposes for it!
Q: What more would you like to learn about cannabis or the cannabis industry?
A: We’ve only scratched the surface of the benefits of cannabis. I’d love to dig deeper and understand more about this extraordinary plant.
Q: Any words of advice to new users?
A: Be safe! Ask for labels. Ask for letters of authenticity. Know what you’re putting in your body.
Q: Any words of advice for people in general (cannabis-related or not, maybe words of advice from your own life path, etc)?
A: Treat all people the way you want to be treated. Be yourself. Your authentic self is key.
Q: How would you say cannabis enhances your experiences, whether it be your art, for therapy, or for social gatherings?
A: Cannabis has definitely enhanced my creativity and way of thinking! I think more deeply about subject whether for school or everyday thoughts. It has also made me more social solely because it helps treat Crohn’s symptoms. Otherwise, I’d be home dibbled over in pain.
Q: What's one of your most memorable moments involving cannabis?
A: I will never forget the first time trying it with my parent. Also, since starting my Instagram page (@marrijuana), I have met some friends that I wouldn’t not have been able to me otherwise. I am so thankful for this platform!
Q: Anything else you'd like to add?
A: I would like to thank PR’s Finest for allowing me to do this guest feature! Sending love to you all!
